You can find websites that are dedicated to hooking up singles that are a part of just about every subculture that you can think of, and then some! What this means for you is that you will not have to browse through thousands of profiles before you find one that is just alright.
Next, Internet safety is getting more high tech and definitely more effective. If you are afraid of meeting Mr. or Ms. Crazy that has a criminal record or is married, there are websites that perform background checks on all of their members. This means that you can find out a little bit more about someone before you even meet them because you know that they have passed a background check. Of course, this doesn't mean that you won't meet someone that you aren't compatible with, but it generally means that you are a bit more secure.
You also must consider that Internet dating gives you 24 hour a day exposure. Therefore, you can meet people that you would never meet in the real world because you do not run in the same circles or visit the same clubs.
